Going to American University and joining the Global Scholars cohort has been one of my best academic decisions. Being in the GloScho program has given me so many different opportunities from travel to internships to meeting high-profile professionals. It has also enabled me to meet and get close with other people in my program who share a passion for international relations.
I was fortunate enough last summer to go to Europe for two months and study through the program, an opportunity I did not think I would be able to fit into three years. It was my first time outside of North America and it felt like a completely different atmosphere enriched with deep history and culture.
To see roads and aqueducts that the Roman Empire had built was incredibly surreal and of course there was always Paco’s smiling face saying “Vale chicos – we have a Catholic Church, before that was a Muslim mosque- mudejar chicos mudejar – and before that a Visigoth church and finally underneath it all, a Roman temple.” Going to Europe has definitely infected me with the traveling bug and I couldn’t be more thankful for it!

Being part of the Gloscho cohort also allowed me to have a closer relationship with academic advisors that advised me in the right direction. Because of that direction, I will be graduating in three years with two Bachelor’s degrees, one in History and one in International Relations (with perhaps an extra minor!).
I have been able to take classes that pertain to my interests and mold my degrees in a way that benefits my career and education goals; including taking classes abroad, during summers, and through the consortium. The faculty and staff at American and especially in the Global Scholars Program
have been supportive and helpful in my two years and I am excited for next year!
